The best thing about Autumn is the changing colour of the leaves, out my window there’s a sweeping wall of trees and watching them change from green to all the shades of copper is spectacular. On my balcony the bigger of my Rowan trees is already starting to change colour.
The best thing about October is that there’s a wondrous cross over of Halloween and Crime Writer aesthetics, meaning that there’s always something in the homeware section that fits right in with my personal style, and even better when that extends to my jewellery or clothing!
September was a brilliant month, primarily because finally I got myself to Bloody Scotland, it taking a while to actually go would be much more understandable if Stirling wasn’t only 32 miles away. But for various reasons this is the first time in 9 years that I’ve gone and the first time as a published author.
I met up with my long time friend Marion Todd, writer of the DI Clare McKay series for lunch, had a quick catch up with Tana Collins, met Noelle Holten. I went to some really excellent events and thoroughly soaked up the atmosphere. And as I got the train in and out daily I also wrote a lot of new words.
Despite having worked in Stirling in the past I was unfamiliar with its train station. Platform 3 has a particularly impressive waiting room with sofas and USB charging points!
September has seen me get my writing grove back and new words on a new project are flowing. This project has a deadline so has moved up my priority list, but as soon as it’s made it’s way off my desk, which will be around mid-November I will be back on to finishing the final couple of rounds of re-edits of Rowan book 5
I’m not one for Pumpkin Spice Latte - no hate, it’s just not my thing, but I am fond of a mulled hot apple and the aroma of spices associated with the turning of the seasons is one of my favourite things. For October I have a couple of hopes: I get my words done - maybe even finish ahead of my deadline; that I get to drink hot chocolate wrapped in the softest tartan wrap (aka my writing cape); and that I sell lots of books (obviously)
Have a spooky one and I’ll be back in November.
